This
innovation originated from the Dutch students studying at Eindhoven University
of Technology, they travelled a distance of 630 kilometers in newly developed
solar car SUV Stella Terra. The solar panels mounted on SUV powered solar car
were not heavy and weigh only 1.2 tonnes.
They
transformed their concept into energy renewable vehicle. The long sloping roof
of SUV designed in such a way to be effective for aerodynamics. The engineering
students shaped the design of car as off-road and set the large tires
underneath for smooth running.
To
tolerate and balance of solar panels on roof of solar car, all they needed was
to maintain power reserve with the help of increasing the mass so that car
could run smoothly on asphalt and rough terrain.
When asked about the top speed of SUV Stella Terra, they revealed it can go up to 145 km/h. The students conducted test drive on various roads of the Netherlands and found satisfactory results. Their next test drive will be Morocco where they intend to travel a distance of 1,000 km driving in the month of October.
